Joy Almeda Stubbs Garrett, age 78, died on September 19, 2017 in Hamilton Texas.

On March 13, 1939, Joy was born to E.D. and Captola Smith Stubbs in Floydada, Texas. She moved to Hamilton in 1946 to live and was raised by her Aunt Floy Smith and Uncle Earl and Shug Smith. She graduated Hamilton High School in 1958. She has been a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church. She has lived and worked in Hamilton all her life. She loved her Friday night card games at the country club, her Keno group, and playing Shanghai with her buddies. She loved all types of music with Elvis Presley and George Jones at the top of her list.

She was all about family and friends. She had a huge and giving heart. She was a strong woman, with a mind of her own. We might not of liked what she had to say, but we always knew where we stood. She was our rock and greatest supporter. She had integrity and led by example, giving us a lifetime of values we live by today.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Kenneth, James, Jay, Bobby, and LeRoy; and three sisters, Floy, June, and Jane.

She is survived by four children, Cindy Garrett of Harlingen, Texas, Clay Garrett and wife, Brenda of Sheffield, Alabama, Carmen Garrett and Connie Garrett, both of Hamilton, Texas; four grandchildren, Jamie Ebner Smith and husband, Mickie, Kyle Ebner, Chase Garrett and Lauren Garrett; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Koraleigh Smith; sister-in-law, Bonnie Stubbs of Odessa, Texas; and extended family and friends.

Pall Bearers are her nephews, Charles Stubbs, Leslie Stubbs, Kevin Rutledge and Elio Smythe. Lifelong friend Charlie Bottlinger and Brook Beezley.
