Joy Thompson, 58, Argusville, ND died on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.

Joycelyn Lee Manthei was born on September 21, 1950 in Fargo to Kenneth and Carol (Sundquist) Manthei. She grew up on the family farm near Embden, ND and graduated from Chaffee High School in 1968. She then attended NDSU and received her home economics degree in 1972. Joy married Monte Thompson on June 6, 1970 in Embden. They made their home in Fargo before moving to Argusville in 1972. That same year she started a teaching career at the Argusville High School and continued with the consolidation into Cass Valley North and later Northern Cass. She was a home economics teacher and after receiving her Master's Degree at NDSU she served as a school counselor.

She enjoyed spending time with family, friends and granddaughter, Madison, as well as summer months at the family lake home. The ladies pinochle group was also a priority for Joy.

She is survived by her husband, Monte; two sons, Ryan (Kim) of Argusville and Chris (fiance, Brittany) of Fargo; granddaughter, Madison; mother, Carol Manthei of Fargo; siblings, Phyllis (Mike Lagasse) Manthei of Fargo, Joan (Jerry) Mazzola of Barstow, CA, Rick (Odetta) Manthei of Sanborn, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ken.

Visitation: Friday, April 24, 2009 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Funeral: Saturday at 10:30 AM at the Northern Cass High School near Hunter, ND with visitation one hour prior.

Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at MeritCare for making Joy's stay so comfortable.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Northern Cass Dollars for Scholars in Joy's memory.
