GARDNER, Joyce F. (Age 84)-

Passed away peacefully on September 26, 2015, in Ritzville, WA. Her home was in Wilbur, WA. Joyce was born on August 2, 1931 in Wilbur, WA to Arthur and Nellie Andersen. She grew up on the family farm 10 miles north of Wilbur. She attended school in Wilbur and graduated in 1949. She went on to attend Eastern WA State College (now EWU) from 1949-1950. She married Les Gardner on May 19, 1951 in Creston, WA. They had two sons, Gale and Rod. Joyce worked as a legal secretary for Ed Dawson and Phil Borst from 1959 to 1977. In 1977 Joyce returned to Eastern WA University where she received her BA in Education in June of 1979. She began teaching in Creston in August 1979 and retired in 1996 after 17 years of teaching. Joyce was a member of the Creston Christian Church and the Wilbur Senior Center. Joyce enjoyed teaching, reading, the Sunday crossword puzzles, traveling with her sister Jean and their grandchildren, but mostly just "being there" for her family and friends. (Jean) Gardner and Rod (Joan) Gardner; 7 grandchildren: Amy Wills, Kelsey (Rodney) Kramer, Zach Gardner, Kayla Gardner, Rodney Gardner-Smith, Brett (Lisa) Mackey and Nicole (Brian) Card; 12 great grandchildren: Tayler, Logan and Levi Wills, Mariah, Makenah and Kacen Kramer, Lucas Gardner, Nicholas, Mikaela & Tanner Mackey, Hoku and Kai Card, and her sister Jean Lane, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Les in 1990, great- granddaughter Mylah and two sisters, Anna Mae Hastings and Helen McDonald. Interment services will be held at a later date at the Wilbur Cemetery.
