72, returned to her heavenly home on June 02, 2017 after a valiant battle with ovarian cancer. Her devotion to her family and her steadfast belief in God supported her in her illness and ultimately gave her peace after a four year battle with cancer. Joyce was born to the late Ralph and Francis Youdes of Jackson, MI on August 31, 1944. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Richard "Dick" Shafor and their children David (Lacy) Shafor and Debra (Andrew) Bourey. Three grandchildren, Jonathan Shafor, Grace Shafor, and Myla Bourey. One brother, Ralph Donald (Helen) Youdes, multiple nephews and sister by affection Sue (John) Cowing. Joyce was retired from Hardwick Appraisal with 23 years of service as a State Licensed Real Estate Appraiser. So also held positions with WickerPlus, Fab Alloy and Kellogg Corset Company. She was a member of First Church of the Nazarene, ABWA Apollo Chapter, Renew Cancer Support Group at Henry Ford Allegiance and the Pleasant Lake Child Study Club. She loved playing golf and bunco at Hankerd Hills Golf Course, decorating cakes for all occasions, shopping, traveling, square dancing, play cards and spending time with her friends, family and grandbabies. During Joyce's battle with cancer, she volunteered at Henry Ford Allegiance Hematology Oncology Center. She used her time to love each and every person that she came into contact with and showed them by example, how to fight cancer with dignity and grace. A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at First Church of the Nazarene in Jackson, Monday, June 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.; Dr. Phillip R. Stout officiating; burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family gratefully requests that instead of flowers, that donations could be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 3905 Clinton Road, Jackson, Michigan 49201 or Heartland Hospice
The family will receive friends at Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson, Sunday, June 4th, 2017 between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Monday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
