Joyce Williams Layman was born December 13, 1932 to the late Frank C. Williams and Della Williams Carter in Trinidad, Texas, Henderson County and entered Eternal Rest October 11, 2017.
Mrs. Layman attended the Eustace Public Schools and the Rutherford Business College in Dallas, Texas. Joyce met and married the late Edwin O. Layman on November 18, 1951.
Their union was blessed with three sons.
Joyce was a diligent community and civic leader. While living in Desoto, Texas she served as Precinct Chairman and Election Judge, was President of Desoto Elementary and Desoto High School PTAs and was on the Executive Board of the Dallas County Council PTA.
Mrs. Layman was employed in sales and marketing for Parker-Garrick Company for over 20 years, and secretary for Specialty Advertising Association Regional Association for 15 years.
Upon returning to Eustace and the Henderson County area she served on the Commissioners Court's Drug and Alcohol Abuse Task Force, was instrumental in organizing the Henderson County Teen Court serving as President and on the Board of Directors. Joyce was very active in the Texas Agricultural Extension Service program, serving on the Executive Council, Community Development Committee, Family and Consumer Council and the Extension Homemakers Club.
She was on the Board of Directors of the Eustace Area Chamber of Commerce for four years and served as President. Joyce served as election judge for the Eustace ISD for many years. Since moving to Arlington, Mrs. Layman has been active in
the Arlington Woman's Club.
Mrs. Layman was a member of the Fielder Road Baptist Church and the Rhema Bible Study Class.
Survivors include her three sons, Michael E. Layman and wife Mary of Stanardsville, VA; Terry O. and wife Deborah of Hampton Bays, New York; R. Scott Layman and wife Kaye of Arlington, Texas. Seven grandchildren: Amanda and husband Don; Matthew and wife Elease; Anna; Anthony and wife Sarah; Bryan and wife Amy; Benjamin; and Rebecca. Four great-grandchildren, Addison, Jackson, Mark and Faye.
Visitation: 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home in Grand Prairie.
Funeral Service: 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 15, 2017 at Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home Chapel in Grand Prairie.
Graveside Service: 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 16, 2017 at Payne Springs Cemetery in Payne Springs, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, contributions maybe made to charity of choice.
