Juanita Mae Durrett Basye, 90, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014. Visitation will be held Monday, July 28, 2014 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm and Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 9:00am until 10:00am at Wright & Ferguson Downtown. The Funeral service will begin 10:00am Tuesday, followed by burial at Lakewood Memorial Park South.

Juanita was born February 27, 1924 in Memphis, TN. She grew up in Amory, MS. After graduation, she moved to Jackson and began working for Bell South. She met William (Bill) Basye and married him on Apr. 1, 1942. She was then an Interior Decorator for Seabrook Paint Store and Devoe-Celanese Paint Store. Juanita was a member of Forest Hill United Methodist Church. She was UMW President for many years and served on various church committees.

Survivors include her daughter: Joyce (Albert) Parks; son-in-law: Hoyt Edwin Chamblee; grandson: Michael Parks; granddaughters: Michelle (Richard) Minton and Melora (Patrick) Weeks; great-granddaughter: MaKayla Ann Minton; and many nieces and nephews.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents: William Douglas and Ada Durrett; brothers: W.D, James, Haney, Bobby, and Roy Durrett; husband: William (Bill) Basye; and daughter: Peggy Sue Chamblee.

The family expresses our appreciation for the many prayers for Mom by her church family, and we especially thank Mrs. Louise McCurley for her faithfulness in sending Mom the church bulletin every week with an encouraging note.

The family also thanks Copiah Living Center and the staff for the warm spirit of care-giving given to our loved one. May God Bless each one of you.
