Funeral services for Mrs. Juanita "Nita" Gill Allen, 82, of Archibald were held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 22, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Archibald with the Rev. Pat Lofton and the Rev. John Cleveland officiating. Interment followed in the Gwin Cemetery in Mangham will follow. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Friday at the First Baptist Church of Archibald under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville, LA.

Nita passed away in St. Francis Hospital on Thursday, June 20, 2013 after a brief illness.

Nita was born in Archibald, LA and attended Archibald Elementary and Mangham High School. After her marriage she moved to Miami, FL where she and her husband Burdis Reese Allen lived several years prior to returning to Archibald and starting Allen Construction Company. She was first and foremost a devoted wife and mother. Nita managed a retail Store in Rayville and after her retirement spent many years working with her family at the Bend of the River Restaurant.

Nita loved gardening and particularly her roses however; she was unparalleled in her baking skills as many family members and friends can readily attest. She was active in the Richland Parish DMA, the Franklin Parish Piecemakers Quilting Club and a member of the First Baptist Church of Archibald where she spent many years serving on the benevolence committee.

Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey Newton Gill and Annie Rushing Gill; her husband, Burdis Reese Allen; her sisters Faye Elaine Bowman and husband James; Julia Anna Finley and husband Billy; two sisters-in-law, Ruth Hutson Allen and Inez Chamblee Allen.

She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Darlene Wood and husband Harry Russell; two sons, Gordan Vincent Allen and wife Elizabeth Ann Searcy; Brian Reese Allen and wife Christine Smith; five granddaughters, Michelle Renea Allen Bell and husband Randy; Angela Pam Allen Blakeney and husband Grant; Tamara Nicole Wood LaCroix and husband, Jarrod; Emily Allen Wood Barnes and husband Justin; and Taylor Grace Allen; three grandsons, Douglas Russell Wood and wife Kaycee; Timothy Gordan Allen and wife Lindsey; Bradley Reese Allen and wife Carrie. Other survivors include fifteen great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Dean Odom and husband Calvin; two brothers-in-law, Luther Allen and Huey Allen; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials are made to the First Baptist Church of Archibald or the charity of choice.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Douglas Wood, Timothy Allen, Bradley Allen, Randy Bell, Grant Blakeney, Jarrod LaCroix, and Justin Barnes.
