Judith L. Carter, 76, of Bartonville, Illinois, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. She was born on July 28, 1940 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Daniel and June (Hill) Smith. She married Joseph L. Carter Sr. on March 15, 1959 in Sheldon, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2000 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Kimberly Carter.

She is survived by three children, Joseph (Michelle) Carter Jr. of Bartonville, Roseanna (Tony) Sewards of West Peoria and Roxanna (Grant) Hegglund of Leicester, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Justin, Michelle, Angela, William, Grant Jr. and Heidi; twelve great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren; three brothers, Randy (Debbie) Smith of Topeka, Kansas, George Smith of Galesburg, Illinois and Glenn Shaffer of Magnolia, Kentucky.

Judith was a clerk at the TP&W Railroad for 34 years retiring in 2000. She was a member of the Ladies Auxillary of the Bartonville American Legion Post 979, Patriotic Member of the Bartonville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3883, volunteer at Washington Christian Village and a member of the Christian Women's Auxillary. She was an active member of the Bartonville Christian Church where she strongly supported the youth group, volunteered in the food pantry of the church and was a member of the Stretched Out Seniors group.

Judith was a loving mother and grandmother, she enjoyed attending family sporting events and was an avid fisherman.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Bartonville Christian Church. The Rev. Kevin Dell will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior the services at the church on Tuesday. Cremation rites have been accorded and inurnment will be at a later date in the Chapel of Peace at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria. The Davison Fulton Bartonville Chapel is handling arrangements.
