June Hancock, age 94, a lifelong resident of Kingston Mines passed away Monday, September 4, 2017 at the Villas of Holly Brook in Pekin.
Born February 11,1923 in Kingston Mines to Roy and Jessie (Scott) Richardson; she married Charles Hancock on July 25, 1947 in Kingston Mines. He preceded her in death on September 29, 2004.
Surviving are her children, Laveda (Jim) Geltz of Peoria, Charles Hancock of Kingston Mines, William (Christy) Hancock of Canton and Joseph (Dallas) Hancock of Edwards; her grandchildren, Erika (Craig) Mason, Roy (Shannon) Geltz, Angie (Paul) Stevenson, Michelle Urish, Stacy (Brian) Zeng, Brook Joyce, Ross Hancock and Kyle Hancock; eleven great-grandchildren; and her sister, Alyce McMullen of Coral Gables, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Roy "Sonny" Richardson and daughter-in-law, Charlette Hancock.
June was a US Navy veteran serving in the WAVES during WWII.
She served as the Postmaster of the Kingston Mines Post Office for many years.
She was a devoted member of the Kingston Mines United Methodist Church, a long-time member of the Kingston Mines Cemetery Board and was very involved with the Kingston Mines Homecoming event.
June is remembered as an outgoing and giving person who never knew a stranger and loved her family greatly, taking special joy in her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, September 7, 2017 at the Kingston Mines United Methodist Church with the Rev. Nick Jordan officiating. Burial with Navy funeral honors will follow at Kingston Mines Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
