Karen Brzenk, 68, of Oneonta, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017 at home in Oneonta.

She was born on July 30, 1948 in Konigstadten Germany, the daughter of Gerhard and Phillippine (Jacobi) Kurka. She met her husband Ron in South Bend Indiana. They were married in June 4, 1971 in Jersey City, NJ.

For 11 years, Karen was a lunch room aide at Center Street School. For the last 6 years, she worked at Valley View School. Her husband told her she was being paid to be a grandma to her students; it was a job she truly enjoyed.

Karen loved crocheting. For years, she made and created stuff for her grandkids. She is currently making things for her new great grandchild. She always made items for her students like pencil toppers and pins for various holidays.

Karen dearly loved her children, grandchildren and the newest great grandchild. She was the best wife, mom, and grandma.

She always enjoyed caring for the squirrels, chipmunks and deer that would visit her yard. She loved her stuffed bear collection.

Karen was very active at St. Mary's Church. She loved serving as a Eucharistic Minister and a Sacrostan.

She is survived by her husband Ron; her sons, Kevin (Denise) Brzenk and David (Tricia) Brzenk; her grandchildren Alex, Samantha, Tiffany, and Jack Brzenk; a great grand child, Kambri Brzenk; a sister, Renate Daniels; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She will be dearly missed by her best friends, Ursula, Dee, Becky, Martha, Ann, Gloria, and Margot.
