Nancy Karen (James) Menefee passed away suddenly on June 30, 2015. She is survived by: her beloved children, Amy Menefee and Jacob Menefee; granddaughter Eilene; her brothers, Michael James (Christy), Randy James (Mari), Ronnie James (Julie); and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Hazel James; and the love of her life, her husband Sam Menefee.

Karen graduated from Arvin High School and Cal Lutheran University at Thousand Oaks. After completing her education Karen moved to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, where she taught school and met her future husband, Sam. This was the beginning of her love affair with the beach and the music of Bob Marley! Karen loved to go on cruises and went on over 15 cruises accompanied by family and friends. She was also an avid reader; happiest when sitting on the beach reading a book. Sam and Karen moved to Arvin where Karen began her teaching career of 32 1/2 years with the Arvin USD. She was a popular teacher frequently requested by parents for their children and loved all her students and their families. Karen willingly shared strategies and materials with other teachers, and was selected by her peers and honored as Teacher of the Year in 1999. Whether at work or in the community, Karen was always willing to help others. She was very spiritual in her words and her actions. She will be missed by her family and those fortunate to be her friends. Karen, may the angels in heaven cut all the red tape in the hereafter and send you directly to heaven where you belong.

Funeral services for Karen Menefee will be celebrated at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be on Thursday, July 9th from 4 to 8 PM. Services will be on July 10th, at 10:00 AM.
