Karl H. Kiep, age 87, of Keene, NH passed away on Wednesday November 1, 2017 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, with family by his side.

Karl was born June 2, 1930 in Leer, Germany the son of Elisabeth (Alting) and Barnhart Kiep.

Karl grew up in Germany where he received his education. During World War II he tragically lost several immediate family members. By 1956 Karl began a life changing journey through a program to relocate to other countries through Church sponsorship. He moved to the United States where he settled in Swanzey and later moved to Keene. He had been employed by St. Johnsbury Trucking as a dockworker and was a shop steward. After retirement, he stayed active attending annual events though the teamster retiree chapter, Local 597.

On June 2, 1972 he married Barbara (Hodgkins) Rouleau and their two families grew into one.

Fondly remembered as a private man, Karl was set in his ways and like things done the "old school" way but still had a great sense of humor. In his spare time he enjoyed sitting down with a good book and wood carving. He also enjoyed going to flea markets and consignment shops. Karl had quite the green thumb and found pleasure in tending to his flower gardens and feeding the birds that came to visit. He was an animal lover and appreciated the companionship of his dog, Brittany. Karl was a strong willed man and that showed as he was a cancer survivor.

Karl will be greatly missed by his wife: Barbara Kiep of Keene, NH; son: Horst Kiep of Manchester, NH; step-son: Wayne Rouleau and his wife Brenda and their sons Johnathan and Ryan of Keene; step-daughter: Denise Rouleau of Brattleboro, VT; and sister: Irmingard Fehrmann of Ahrensburg, Germany; and extended family and friends.

Karl was preceded in death by his son Carl Kiep, first wife Carmen Kiep, sisters Elisabeth Rieck and Pia Kiep, and brother Onno Kiep.

Family and friends are invited to call Friday, November 10, 2017 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH. A funeral Service will follow at 11:00 am with burial at Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Ave, Keene, NH.
