Hampton, NH Kay Manson Petri, 69, died on February 29, 2012 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. She was born on May 13, 1942, the eldest daughter of the late Frederic A. and Winnifred E. (Bates) Manson. She grew up in Portland, Maine and graduated from Deering High School, class of 1960. She attended the University of Connecticut for two years and began her career as a dental assistant in Boston. Kay moved to Hampton in 1971 where she raised her family, volunteered in the local school system and was an active fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association. Having lived with diabetes since she was a teenager, Kay was a mentor to those living with the disease and inspired many to live a rich, full life despite a chronic and often life-limiting illness. She worked for Hampton dentist, Dr. Cal Wallingford, for 30 years serving as a dental assistant and office manager. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Manson; and is survived by her husband of 49 years Richard S. Petri of Hampton, NH; daughter Erika Petri and her husband Christopher Clegg of Portland, ME; son Scott M. Petri and his wife Sheila of Los Angeles, CA; 5 grandchildren Miles Clegg-Petri, Toby Clegg-Petri, K.C. Clegg-Petri, Sarah Petri, and Samantha Petri; two aunts, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and many wonderful friends. The family is extremely grateful to the physicians and health professionals who have helped Kay throughout the years, especially to the doctors and nurses at Portsmouth Regional Hospital for their compassion, and the Visiting Nurses Association of Rockingham County, who helped care for her at home. Memorial Visitation will be on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 10 AM – 11 AM at the Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine Street, Exeter, NH followed by a Celebration of Life at 11 AM at the funeral home.
