Kelly Christine Harvey, 55, of Columbus Ohio, passed away suddenly on May 30, 2016. Kelly, who grew up in East Hartford, graduated from East Catholic High School in Manchester, CT then earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Maine at Machias in Environmental Studies. After graduating, Kelly worked as a field biologist before moving to upstate New York to found Bionomics, Inc., a biological pest control company.
Following a life-long concern for endangered animals and the environment, Kelly went to Columbus, Ohio in 1990 to attend The Ohio State University, and earned her Master's Degree in Environmental Policy. She was immediately employed by The State of Ohio Department of Agriculture. With a background in biology and a love of wine, Kelly tried her hand at making wine at home. After winning several medals from the Amateur Winemakers Guild, she founded Signature Wines, an award winning, urban, micro-winery in Columbus in 2004. Kelly was one of the few female commercial winemakers in the United States.
Kelly is survived by her beloved wife Mary Beth Ruttan, her devoted parents Howard "Bud" and Dolores (Robinson) Harvey of East Hartford, her treasured sisters Kimberly Kinney of Cromwell, Cynthia Dunne and her fiancé Stephen Derry of Madison, and Christine McAllister and her husband Jeffrey of Lebanon. Left to cherish her memory are nephews Ryan Dunne of Branford, Sean and Matthew McAllister of Lebanon, and niece, Brittany Dunne, of Charleston, SC, Mother and father-in-law Donna and Keith Ruttan of Kent, OH; sister-in-law, Kathleen (Rock) White, and Susan (Jay) Valetta of Kent OH, brother-in-law, Keith (Jeannette) Ruttan of Twinsburg, OH, her aunt Sylvia (Lester) Smith of FL., uncle Richard (Louisa) Harvey of East Hartford and numerous nieces and nephews in OH.
Kelly will be fondly remembered by her family and many friends for her great sense of humor and deep passion for her convictions and beliefs. Her immense knowledge and meaningful contributions to innumerable conversations will be missed by all. Kelly also loved the ocean, tending to her flowers, working at her winery, taking long walks, and her energetic and lovable golden retriever, Cassidy.
The funeral Mass will take place Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 11AM in St. Rose Church, 33 Church St., East Hartford, CT. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pilot Dogs Inc. at www.pilotdogs.org. Benjamin J.
