Dr. Kui Yang passed away on January 12, 2016 at the age of 44 after fighting with multiple myeloma for 3 years.

Kui was born and raised in the beautiful coastal city, Dalian, in Northeastern China. During his medical training at Dalian Medical University he met his beloved wife Ziwei Chen. After graduating from medical school, he first worked as an orthopedist for 7 years in the university's affiliated hospital before he moved to US with Ziwei in 2002.

After settling down in the Los Angeles, Kui continued his medical practice as a resident surgeon in University of Southern California. Two years later, he transferred his residency to St. Louis University. From 2008 to 2011, Kui switched his residency to specialize in anesthesiology in Washington University School of Medicine. He remained as a Pain Management Fellow in the same department for another year before he worked for a private clinic.

Kui was a devoted husband, loving father, and dutiful son. He took good care of his family and tried hard to please his elders. Even in his final days, he was trying to make Ziwei's daily life a little easier.

Kui was a humble friend and that is why so many of us are gathering here to celebrate his life. A smiling face has become the first thing when we picture Kui in the mind. He cared and loved his patients. It is unfortunate that his illness took him away from us.

Kui is survived by his wife Ziwei Chen, daughter Emily, son Bryan, father Zhaohe, mother Xiuling Zhu, and brother Feng.
