Leah Bethany Gardner, age 93, long-time resident of Corpus Christi, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed into eternity on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Corpus Christi.

Leah was born September 20, 1924 at the home of her maternal grandparents in Wheeler, Texas, to Sylvester and Sadie Reeves. The family moved to Edinburg, Texas, in 1936 where Leah graduated from High School in 1942. After a brief move to Austin, Texas, where Leah graduated from Durham Business College, the family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1943.

Leah Beth (as she was known most of her life) was a member of West Heights Baptist Church (later to become River Hills Baptist Church at Oak Park) since 1953. The church became a corner stone of her life, along with her family. She was devoted to the west side of Corpus Christi and remained loyal through all of the changes that occurred in that area over the years. Leah Beth worked at secretarial jobs in the city throughout the 40’s, 50’s and early 60’s, mostly in the downtown district.

Leah Beth met and married William Gardner (deceased) in 1955. They were married 58 years and lived in the same home at 1226 Dona Dr. for 54 years.

Leah Beth will be remembered by those who survive her in many different contexts. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, church member, co-worker, animal-lover, and all-around citizen. She could be fiercely loyal to those who shared her views and causes. She was unwavering in her support for issues that she believed in. She was loved greatly by her late husband who provided personal care to her right up until his own death in 2013.

Leah Beth is preceded in death by her husband, William Gardner, her parents, Sylvester and Sadie Reeves, her brother, Morris Reeves, her nieces, Jean Ann Elliot and Tammy Kaye Reeves, her nephew, Robert Reeves and a sister-in-law, Mary Reeves.

Leah Beth is survived by her son, Gerald Gardner, her daughter-in-law, Sherry Gardner, grandson, Gregory Gardner, grandson’s wife, Cara Gardner, grand-daughter Susan Ketter, grand-daughter’s husband, Toby Ketter, great-grandchildren: Grace Gardner, Judah Gardner, Titus Gardner, Taylor Ketter, Coleigh Ketter, Lincoln Ketter, great-niece, Crystal Elliot, and Crystal’s two sons Caleb and Keiland.

Leah may be viewed in repose at Memory Gardens Funeral Chapel on Sunday, January 14, 2018from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral services will be conducted at Memory Gardens Funeral Home on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Due to Leah’s love of animals, it is the family’s wish that in lieu of flowers, a donation should be made to Peewee’s Pet Adoption World & Sanctuary, Inc., 1307 Saratoga, Boulevard, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78417.

It was Leah Gardner’s expressed wish at the end of her life that all of the providers who were responsible for her personal and health care should be thanked and commended for their consideration. She was most humble and appreciative.
