Lela Mae Leighton, age 87, of Keller, Texas, passed away on January 23, 2018, after a long struggle with Alzheimers.
Visitation will be held Sunday, January 28th from 2 to 4 p.m. at J.E. Foust and Son Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held, Monday, January 29, 2018, 1 p.m. at J.E. Foust and Son Funeral Home, Grapevine, Texas. Robert Stolte will be officiating. Burial will follow at Bluebonnet Cemetery, Colleyville, Texas at 2:30 P.M. Funeral arrangements are being handled by J.E. Foust and Son Funeral Home, Grapevine, Texas.
Lela was born the second of five children in Oden, Arkansas on September 28, 1930. She graduated from Oden High School and moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where she began a career as a bookkeeper and retail clerk.
Lela was married to Victor L. Leighton, Jr. on September 2, 1950; they were married 67 loving years.
Lela worked as a wife, mother and homemaker for her married life. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, Victor, gardening, cooking, ceramics, and visiting with her grandchildren, family and friends. She was also actively involved in fund raising programs and chaperone for the band booster club when her three children were participating in high school marching, concert, and jazz bands. She supported her husband in his career choices which lead them to many happy years of living in such exotic places as the US Territory of Alaska, Saudi Arabia, and traveling extensively through the Middle East, Europe and the Mediterranean.
Lela is survived by her husband Victor L. Leighton, Jr.; son, Matt A. Leighton and wife Rita; daughter, Vicki M. Wood McDonald; daughter, Barbara L. Weddle Bennett and husband Warren; grandson Jeremy Wood; grandson, Matthew Leighton and partner Amber Pohlen; grandson, Brian Weddle and wife Hannah; granddaughter, Jenifer Weddle and partner Keith Ellis; grandson, Jason Bennett and wife Jeanna; granddaughter, Jessica Steele and husband Ron, grandson; Chis McDonald and wife Nadia; brother, Bill Tucker, and wife Mary; sister Rhoda Ward, and 9 great-grandchildren, as well as many other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Alzheimers Association. The family of Lela Mae Leighton wishes to thank Green Valley Assisted Living and Rehabilitation Center.
