Lt. Col. Leo Sampanis, USAF Ret, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2017, after three days in home hospice care. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lambros and Adamandia Sampanis of Salem, Indiana (both originally from Greece). He was born in Salem on April 6, 1935, and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Katherine, his daughter, Maria Sampanis, son-in-law Daniel P. A proud Hoosier, IU alum, and 65-year member of AHEPA, Leo was dedicated to medicine and science, military and public service, education, church community, and family above all-and that family will miss him and his terrific sense of humor tremendously.
