Leon Dickey, age 86 of Trafford, went home to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his loving family October 8, 2016. Born on Dec. 8, 1929 in Woodstock, Al., he joined the United States Navy in May of 1948 and served his country for 20 years. Upon his retirement, Leon worked for Am South in the Maintenance Dept. and retired from that position in 1990. Leon married Mary Frances Martin Nov 24, 1950 and they traveled the U.S. during his Naval career. They were blessed with three children during their forty-two years of marriage before Mary's death in 1992. Leon loved the Lord and served him faithfully. He read his Bible daily until his eyesight began to fail. A longtime member of Trafford Baptist Church, he will not only be remembered as a caring individual, but also for his endearing sense of humor and love of family. Leon was a Mason and a past Master of the Locust Fork Lodge. He was currently a member of the Bush Lodge #777 in Dixiana. He was an avid Alabama football fan and loved pulling for his Crimson Tide. Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dickey, his parents, Ola Dickey Adcock and Dan Dickey, his sisters, Rachel Fisher and Gladys Alverson, his brothers, Dan C. Dickey and Pete Dickey. He is survived by his loving wife of thirteen years Joyce Dickey, his children, Rhonda Hardiman (Kirby), Michael Dickey and Leigh Ann Reaves (Erick); Step Children, Laura Stockley, Fred Sandy Stockley, Carl Stockley, Rita Childers, and Debra Hays; Grandchildren, Kevin Hardiman (Dawn), Brandi Belcher (Jonathan), Casey Johnson, Erin Reaves, Chase Reaves; Great Grandchildren, Kolton Hardiman, Alexis Hardiman, Jon Marc Belcher, Samuel Belcher; his sister, Clara Ahlberg; special friends Bill Melvin, Doug Hart and Dennis Sullivan; and a host of nieces, nephews and other dear family and friends. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 12th at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel from 6 until 8 pm. Chapel services will be Thursday beginning at 1 pm and followed with interment in Oakwood Memorial Gardens with U.S. Navy Honors. Rev Pat Melvin will officiate services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trafford Baptist Church, 1045 Smith Mill Road, Trafford, AL 35172
