Leonard Wright Fisk, 88, husband of Janet (Newell) Fisk, to whom he was married for almost 60 years, died Thursday, (April 13, 2006) at McLean in Simsbury. He was born February 1, 1918 in Hartford to the late Vallette Wright and Leonard Daniels Fisk. At the time of his birth, his father was serving overseas in World War I. Len spent his early years in West Hartford, graduated from William Hall High School in 1937 and later attended the University of Vermont. During World War II, he served as a Staff Sergeant and a Link Trainer Instructor in the U.S. Air Force. After marrying, he and Janet lived in Windsor for six years before moving to Simsbury 53 years ago. Len was employed as an engineer at Stanadyne Corporation in Windsor for 32 years, retiring in 1982. Athletics were an important part of Len's life, especially golf and paddle tennis in his later years. It gave him great satisfaction and pride that his family enjoyed and excelled both in sports and at work. His family knew him as a very caring, dedicated, quiet, sensitive man. He surprised many with his dry sense of humor. Len's children appreciate the skills and traits that he instilled in their lives. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Gail Fisk and her husband, Richard Mattas of Lakeside, MI, Blair Fisk and her partner, Darlene Mercure of South Windsor, Thane Fisk of Windsor, Katie Fisk Natale and her husband, Justin of New Hartford; and his sister, Vallette and her husband, Richard Benham of West Hartford. His son, Todd Newell Fisk, and his brother, Henry J. Fisk predeceased him. Len's family invites friends and relatives to drop by for an informal gathering on Wednesday, April 19 between 3-5 p.m. at The Burkholder Community Center, McLean Village, 100 Sarah Lane, Simsbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
