LA PLACE, Leslie "Les" Martin Jr., of Mechanicsville, Virginia, passed away, Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Memorial Regional Medical Center. Les was born in Richmond, Virginia on May 15, 1920, to Leslie Martin and Mary Elizabeth Snider La Place. He was a 1938 graduate of John Marshall High School. Les answered the call to serve his country during World War II as a Technical Sergeant, assigned to the 351st Bomb Squadron.

In 1950, after the war, he graduated from Virginia Tech. Les was a Mechanical Engineer for the Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department for many years, retiring in 1985. He was an avid bridge player. Les is survived by his wife, Betty La Place; children, Leslie La Place (Thomas Gould), David Lacy (Joyce) and Angie Willis (Stuart); grandchildren, Douglas Gould, Caroline Willis and Luke Willis; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both his parents; and first wife of 55 years, Esther La Place.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bon Secours Richmond Health Foundation, for Hospice Care. Visitation for Leslie "Les" Martin La Place Jr. will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May, 4, at Woody Funeral Home, Atlee Chapel, 9271 Shady Grove Road, Mechanicsville, Va. 23116. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 5, at Woody Funeral Home, Atlee Chapel, followed by interment with military honors in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Pilots Lane, Richmond, Va. 23222.
