Lester Dale Pickett, 90, of Brighton and Gilcrest, died Wednesday, October 19, 2016 in Brighton. He was born July 2, 1926 in Milliken to Shirl and Velma (Hull) Pickett.

Lester grew up in the Keenesburg area and later near Gilcrest on his family's farms. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Later he farmed near Gilcrest, Platteville, and Peckham for a number of years. Subsequently he worked as an automotive and heavy equipment mechanic; employed by the Valley School District, then Monfort of Colorado and later, the Great Western Sugar Company in Johnstown.

On June 10, 1953 he married Arlene Joy Fry in Gilcrest; they were happily married until her death, March 12, 1996.

Lester loved fishing, camping and sharing the mountains with family and friends. He had a life long passion for gardening and rock hunting, making jewelry from some of his finds. When he wasn't outside engaged in these activities he loved to sing and dance. His family and home were most important to him.

Lester is survived by his daughters, Susan Lutz of Greeley and Cheryl Pickett-Gies (Stephen) of Westlake Village, CA and Billings, MT; and by his brother's-in-law, Jon and Robert Fry.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Harold Pickett.
