Mrs. Lillian “Kate” Jackson Boteler, lovingly known as “Mama Lil”, entered into Heaven on Sunday, December 3, 2017 from Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, MS. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 10 am to 12 pm at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS 39209, with the funeral service at 12 pm. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Boteler was born in Hinds County, MS in 1924 to the late James Robert “Bob” Jackson and Carrie Lillian Chadwick Jackson French. She joined Raymond Baptist Church in August of 1932 and has been a member there longer than any other person. She taught third grade Sunday School and God’s Special People for decades at First Baptist Church of Raymond. She was a graduate of Hinds Junior College and Belhaven College. Lillian and her friend, June Thorne of Hazlehurst, became the central characters of a play that told their story of mailing the same Valentine card (Tootsie Valentine) back and forth to each other for 67 years. She was a Founding Member and former President of the Raymond Garden Club, Raymond Culture Club, The Country Girls and many other social organizations. She worked for the United States Postal Service for 41 years, serving as the Postmaster for 15 of those years.

Mrs. Boteler is preceded in death by her husband, Coach Louis “Skin” Boteler; step-brother, H.O. French Jr.; step-sister, Edith Bullock; brother, Frank Frye. She is survived by her children, Bob Boteler (Brenda), Dr. Bill Boteler (Jan) and Bebe Boteler Garrison.

Grandchildren: Ben Boteler (Amy), Katie Gay Phillips (Craig), Lauren Elliott (Keith), Sarah Frisbee (Alex), Rob Garrison and Ali Garrison. Great-grandchildren: Jackson Boteler, Neel Boteler, Addy Boteler, Will Elliott, Jack Elliott, Grant Phillips and Lily Belle Phillips, in addition to many nieces and nephews.
