Lloyd W. "Mitch" Mitchell 92, of Spofford, NH, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, following a brief period of failing health.

Mr. Mitchell was born in Keene, NH on September 11, 1923, the son of Mary E. (Patnode) and Richard O. Mitchell, Sr. He grew up in Keene and was a 1942 graduate of Keene High School.

In 1942, Mr. Mitchell enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was a proud member of Bravo Company, 1st Provisional Marine Battalion, Londonderry, Northern Ireland. He was honorably discharged on September 23, 1945, earning the rank of Private First Class. He later served with the NH Army National Guard from June of 1949 until June of 1952, earning the rank of Corporal.

On March 8, 1947, he married the love of his life, Evelyn R. "Mona" Kelley.

Mitch worked for 40 years with the New England Telephone Company as a lineman and installer. Although his primary base was Keene, Mitch worked at several locations throughout New England.

Mitch was always recognized by his huge smile and wonderful sense of humor. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, who especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mitch took great pride in his home, especially his gardens. His other talents included sketching, painting, and woodworking. He was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan. .

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn R. "Mona" Mitchell of Spofford; two sons, Terry Mitchell and his wife, Kathie, of Keene, and Scott Mitchell of Brattleboro, VT; two daughters, Jeanne Mitchell of South Portland, ME and Holly Mitchell-Moore of Spofford; seven grandchildren; Asher Beal; Ryan Taylor; Meghan Keites; Tessa Tarango; Madison Dallen; Bradyn Mitchell; and Keegan Mitchell; and eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Phyllis Masiello of California; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Dean; and two brothers, Richard O. Mitchell, Jr. and L. David Mitchell.

A private committal service will be held in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, at a later date.
