Lois Burton was born in the tiny Paradise community near Jefferson, Texas on February 18, 1917 to the parentage of Fannie Carter and Will Standoak. She was the third child of her mother's and the third eldest of seven born to her father. Her mother died of pneumonia when she was only about a year old, so she was raised by her maternal grandparents, Mary and Joe Carter.
Lois was educated in the Marion County school system. She accepted Christ at a young age while still living in Jefferson. As a young adult Lois lived in California, Seattle and Dallas. In the late 1940's while working in Dallas she met the love of her life her husband W.C. Burton.
They were one of the first black families to buy a home in the Arlington Park area near the Parkland Hospital District. Their love of the Lord led them to join the Arlington Park Baptist Church, were Reverend Butler was the Pastor.
Later in life Lois and W.C. relocated to Kaufman but continued to commute to Dallas for work. She was a breast cancer survivor since the age of 78 and is the last of her siblings. She carried the torch of longevity from her father who lived to be 105.
Lois and W.C. were married for over 50 years. She had four children: John, Billy, Alice and Jackie. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and dear friend. She was the family historian and resource center for remembering birthdays and all things important for her family.
She was preceded in death by: her husband William Cullen (W.C.) Burton Sr.; her son William Cullen (Billy) Burton Jr.; grandson Devin E.
