Loren William Pixley, 87, of Mount Vernon, IL passed away at 7:33 a.m. July 18, 2017 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, IL.

He was born June 28, 1930 in Wabash County, IL to parents Walter Mack and Cora May (Schnitz) Pixley. He married Carol Hinderliter on June 17, 1956 in Mount Carmel, IL.

Mr. Pixley is survived by his wife, Carol Pixley of Mount Vernon; son, William Pixley and wife, Sharon, of Mount Vernon; two daughters: Lee Ann Pixley of Auburn, IN and Mary (Pixley) Hall and husband, Jeff, of Braintree, MA; three grandchildren: Tyler, Laina, and Maria; one great-grandson, David; sister, Ruth Pixley of Lancaster, IL; two nephews: Robert Pixley of Lancaster, IL and Wayne Pixley of Olney, IL; two nieces: Ellen Sams of Albion, IL and Cindy Sechrest of Bridgeport, IL; and numerous grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Loren was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Earl Pixley and Howard Pixley; three sisters: Mary Ellen Pixley, May Pixley, and Vera Longbons; and two nephews: Carl Pixley and Arthur Pixley.

Mr. Pixley served his country in the United States Army. He earned his PhD in education where he spent 37 years of his life instructing. He was a member of the Kiwanis, Emmanuel Methodist Church in Olney, and the Richland Heritage Museum Foundation. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be held Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Moravian Cemetery in West Salem, IL. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
