Lorenz Louis Gerecke of Escondido, California passed away on April 14, 2017 at the age of 96. Lorenz (also known as Lou) was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on December 24, 1920 to William Luther Gerecke and Martha Marie Lange.
Lorenz served in the Navy on the USS Savannah, USS Vicksburg in the Asia-Pacific, and European-African arena and on the USS Frontier during the Korean War.
He settled in Escondido with his first wife, Gertie Lee Burton (born in Kentucky, died February 26, 1974 in Escondido) and was employed with Teledyne Aero-Cal as a sheet metal worker. Working for Teledyne Aero-Cal gave him the opportunity to contribute work to the construction of the F-86 Sabre jet and Space Shuttle.
Lou loved bowling, golfing and enjoyed crafting wood cabinetry in his "well tooled" garage.
His second marriage was to Mary Jane Miller on February 27, 1977. Mary Jane had four adult children. At her death on December 3, 2013, her family included six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Lorenz is survived by his younger brother, William Gerecke and his wife Sue of Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Lou's cremains will be buried with Gertie Lee at Oak Hill Memorial Park in Escondido, California.
