December 29, 1935-December 16, 2017

Lorraine Elizabeth was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 81 surrounded by her family after a long battle with cancer. Lorraine was born and raised in Linden, California on December 29, 1935 to the late Johnny Filipelli and the late Angela Rolleri. Growing up, she worked the family ranch, attended Linden area schools and Humphreys College when it was in downtown Stockton. She married James Coito on November 10, 1957 and went on to have two children. During her children’s younger years, she was an active parent in their schools, various PTA’s, and St. Bernadette’s Parish, as well as working as a bookkeeper. She also worked with her husband at their Quick Stop Market from 1970-1973. Her professional career spanned over 50 years as an accountant and was named Woman of the Year by the American Business Women’s Association. She retired in 2006 after 34 years with DeGregori, Gormsen, and Ringer, LLP. Lorraine touched many lives with her big heart, her smile, and her strong faith. She was a rock and was quick to act in cases of emergency, once saving a neighbor’s daughter as well as her husband. Lorraine’s favorite passion was her family and she doted over her three grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and her secret desire was to open a restaurant. She loved traveling with her husband to Italy, Portugal, and Hawaii among other places; taking cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, and Hawaii; dancing; attending the theater; playing golf and tennis; crochet and needlepoint; reading good books; meeting her high school friends for lunch; and watching sports including football, baseball, and the Olympics. She was a devoted parishioner of the Church of Presentation since 1979 and a member of the Portuguese Club of Stockton among other groups. Lorraine leaves behind her son, Michael (Mariel) Coito and her daughter, Antoinette Coito; her three grandchildren, Brittany (Will) Kesler, Steven (Abigail) Coito, and Chelsea (Eric-fiancé) Moso; her sister Linda (Irv) Handel; her sister-in-laws, Patricia Coito and Elsa Watson, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father; mother; husband; sister-in-laws, Mary Coito ,Olivea Bannon, Betty Coito, and Arlene Coito; and her brother-in-laws, John Coito, Fred Coito, Joseph Coito, Bruce Coito, Ray Watson, and Ray Bannon, as well as many other family members and friends. Viewing will be at DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, 7676 Shoreline Dr., Stockton, CA on Tuesday, December 26th from 1pm to 5pm. Mass will be held at the Church of Presentation, 1515 W. Ben Holt Dr., Stockton, CA on Wednesday, December 27th at 10am. Internment will immediately follow at San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery, 719 E Harding Way, Stockton, CA. There will be a reception for family and friends after the internment at the Portuguese Hall on Thornton Road in Stockton. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of San Joaquin or any charity of your choice in Lorraine’s name.
