Born on October 22, 1940 in Spice, West Virginia, Lottie was the daughter of James and Mary Hankins. She was a graduate of Gap Mills High School and was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

In 1960 Lottie married William Thornton who preceded her in death in 2006. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and R. T. Hankins; three sisters, Ruth Marshall, Grace Wickline, and Margaret Talbert, as well as her parents James and Mary Hankins.

Lottie Thornton was a homemaker most of her life and had a great love for children. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family. Survivors include two brothers, George Hankins of Virginia, and Paul Hankins of West Virginia. Two sisters, Edith Collie of Virginia, Carolyn and Joey Jones of Virginia.

Lottie Thornton is also survived by three daughters, Belinda Jo Hooker of Archdale, Mary Elizabeth Hollingsworth and her husband David Hollingsworth of Archdale, and Amber Lee Thornton of Sophia. Five grandchildren, Ashley Kelly and husband Jason, Christopher Hooker, Bethany Hollingsworth, Emily Hollingsworth, David Franklin Hollingsworth (Trey).

Visitation will be held one hour before service at the Sechrest Funeral Service Chapel in Archdale, NC starting at 1:00pm with services immediately following at 2:00 pm. The Interment will be in the Holly Hill Memorial Park in Thomasville, North Carolina following the service.
