Louis Carl Jones, 78, passed from this life Wednesday, November 1, 2017.

He was born October 3, 1939, in the old Baptist Hospital in Jackson, a son of the late Carl Louis Jones and Estelle Hawkins Jones. Louis served as an Eagle Scout and was a 1957 graduate of Central High School in Jackson. Following graduation he joined the Marine Reserves and was sent to Camp LeJeune, NC- Semper Fi. Following his service with the Reserves he received a Bachelor's Degree from Mississippi State University and Master's Degree from Mississippi College.

On April 13, 1963, he married his wife, Jerry. Louis enjoyed a lengthy career in the banking industry, serving as branch manager and vice president for Trustmark. Following his retirement from Trustmark, Louis worked as a substitute teacher for the Rankin County School System, and adjunct professor for Jackson State University and Hinds Community College.

In 1985 Louis and Jerry purchased farm land in the Sandhill/Pisgah area and Louis began raising Belted Galloway cows and registered dogs.

He was a faithful member of Broadmoor Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and was formerly the music director at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton for 17 years. Louis was also a member of the Mississippi Singing Churchmen, Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Sertoma Club, Rankin County Forestry Association, Rankin County Cattlemen's Association, and served as National President of the Gardeners of America/Men's Garden Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jones Simmons, and nephew, James Simmons.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Geraldine Todd "Jerry" Jones; sons, Todd Jones (Christin), and Brian Jones (Tanya); grandchildren, Carlie Jones Saxton, Corey Jones, Anna-Graden Jones, and Mitchell Jones; and nieces, Lucille Simmons and Shirley Bower.
