Louise Reichert Earnhardt, 96, of Fredericksburg died Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at her residence.
Born in Macon, Georgia, Mrs. Earnhardt was the daughter of Jacob and Ann Phillips Reichert. She attended Joseph Clisby Elementary School in Macon and Miami Senior High in Florida. She graduated from Duke University where she was a member of Sandals Honor Society, President of Giles Dorm, member of the Judicial Council of Student Government and of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. At Duke she met her husband, Lee Earnhardt, a fellow student. Mrs. Earnhardt worked in the Pan American Airlines Reservation Office in Miami, the Navy Pre-Flight School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and the Army Transport Center in Baltimore Maryland. Mrs. Earnhardt married during WWII when her husband was a medical student at the University of North Carolina. During his service with the Navy Medical Corps they lived in Guam where he was stationed at the Naval Hospital. Following his military service, they lived in Richmond, Virginia where he completed his obstetrics and gynecology residency at the Medical College of Virginia. They moved to Fredericksburg in 1952 for him to join in practice with the late Dr. Gordon W. Jones.
Mrs. Earnhardt was an active member of the community volunteering at Maury School, the Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary, the Red Cross, the Women's Club, and the Salvation Army. She especially enjoyed her association with the Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary where she served for many years as chairman of the Surgical Waiting Room Service. She was a member and elder at the Presbyterian Church of Fredericksburg and taught Sunday school for many years.
Mrs. Earnhardt was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. H. Lee Earnhardt, and her brother, Albert Phillips Reichert.
She is survived by three children and their spouses, Ann and Robert Harry of Fredericksburg, Lee and Elizabeth Earnhardt of Winchester, Virginia and Eric and Cathleen Earnhardt of Morristown, New Jersey. She is also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Jonathan Earnhardt and his wife, Andrea and their children, Nathaniel and Lael of Charlottesville, Virginia; Eric Earnhardt and his wife Lauryn of Alexandria, Virginia; Jenna and Mary Cathryn Earnhardt of Morristown. Also surviving is her sister, Beverly Kennon of Coral Gables, Florida as well as several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 at Oak Hill Cemetery on Saturday, January 13, 2018. The Rev. Allen Fisher will officiate.
Following the funeral, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the Presbyterian Church, 810 Princess Anne Street, from 1:00 to 2:00pm.
