Louise Root, born September 15, 1933 in Jena, LaSalle Parish, Louisiana, passed away January 15, 2018 in Houston, Texas. Louise graduated from Smiley High School in Humble, Texas in 1951, followed by Business School where soon after graduation she began her first job as Private Secretary to Bennet Watson of Watson Van and Storage. Louise married Charles Ephraim Root of Lufkin on August 18, 1955 and made their home in Houston where they began their family. Within the next seven years they welcomed five daughters beginning with Charlene, Diana, Sherry, Barbara and Patricia. Louise enjoyed life as a homemaker until she became a founding member of the Fourth Ward Clinic ministry of the Church of the Redeemer as medical secretary. She continued in medical administration for several years, then moved into the legal field working for Gerald Gordon LLC. Moving to Nacogdoches to fulfill her and Charles' retirement dreams she began working for Central Height's ISD. Returning to Houston, she began her final career as a federal loan collector at the University of Houston where she remained until her retirement in 2000.

Her many awards included Staff of the Year Award from University of Houston and President of the University of Houston Faculty Staff Christian Association. Regardless of her industry, Louise felt compelled to shine her faith in the Lord to ensure success for herself and all who came in contact with her. Perhaps her greatest achievement was raising five children alone after the death of her beloved husband in 1974. She was a devoted member of Church of the Redeemer, St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, University of Houston Faculty Staff Christian Association and Magnificat Houses, Inc.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Suzie Butler, her husband, Charles Ephraim Root, her brother Andrew C. Butler, and her sister Rachel Butler Hester Hawthorn, and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Left to cherish her memories are Charlene and Micheal Stidham of Nacogdoches, Diana Root of Houston, Sherry and James Kubena of East Bernard, Barbara Corrington of Houston and Patricia Greenwood of Houston; her sister, Faye Hailey of Jena, LA; 13 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
