Lowell Vertrees Sykes, 87, a lifelong resident of Beaumont passed away on Saturday January 20, 2018 in Beaumont surrounded by his family. Lowell was born in Beverly, Illinois on August 5, 1930 to his parents Everett William Sykes and Grace Elenor Stewart Sykes who preceded him in death. Lowell was a dedicated truck driver for K.L.L.M. Trucking Company. Lowell proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as a Private First Class and played the cornet in the Thirty-First Dixie Division Band. He loved roller skating, deer hunting with his son, offshore fishing, playing tennis with his daughter, and especially his favorite thing was to play the organ at home and also at various churches. Lowell was also a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Beaumont. Surviving Lowell is his loving wife of fifty-eight years and three months, Kathy Stratton Sykes of Beaumont, son, Doug Sykes and wife Angela of Springtown, daughter, Sondra McCarty and husband Don of Tyler, brother, Norman William Sykes and wife Linda of Spring, nine grandchildren, Michelle Tolbert and husband Toby, Christopher Radley, Anna Grace Lovett, Kelly Garner and wife Stephanie, Graham Garner, Riley Watson, Zack Frausto, Duncan McCarty, Justin McCarty, and eight great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday January 22, 2018 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 23, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.
