Lucille Jean Smith, 83, of Crystal Lake, passed away January 4, 2018. Born June 23, 1934 in Chicago; she was the daughter of Anthony and Irene (Unruh) Leon. She married James "Jay" Smith on January 21, 1950 in Chicago.
Lucille was an amazing mother to all nine of her children. She provided them with the best of whatever they needed and still made time to be a mother to others. She taught them about faith, compassion and the importance of kindness and joy even in times of suffering.
A realtor for many years in the McHenry County area; Lucille was a devoted catholic and member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Crystal Lake; where she was a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the choir.
An avid Chicago Cubs fan, Lucille loved the color red. She enjoyed cooking, singing, bowling, bingo, dancing, traveling, listening to the sound of babies and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Lucille was a person who loved life and treasured family. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Diane Smith; her children, Nanette Mueller, Laurette Smith, Joe (Mary) Smith, Sharon (Don) Purdom, Karen (Jim) Crocco, and Tony (Michelle) Smith; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Adele Stilling and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents; sons, James "Corky", John and Larry Smith; sister, Anne Carlson; brothers, John, Frank and Nick Leon.
There will be a visitation from 4 until 8 pm Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake, IL. Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, January 10 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to JourneyCare Hospice, 405 Lake Zurich Road, Barrington, IL 60010. Burial will take place in Crystal Lake Memorial Park.
