Lucy Ada Wood Vickers, 88, of Glen Alpine, departed from this life to her Heavenly home on Sunday, September 21, 2014.
Mrs. Vickers was born in Jackson County, North Carolina, on October 9, 1925 to the late Jerry Manuel and Lilly Mae Gurley Wood. She was married to the late Charlie Pascal Vickers. Mrs. Vickers worked for many years at Marion & Bessemer City manufacturing companies. She was also a former employee of Case Farms. She retired from the Western Carolina Center, where she received an award for excellence. She was a faithful member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Glen Alpine. Mrs. Vickers loved flowers and was very active with the Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Vickers was preceded in death by a daughter and son in law, Helen Dorcas Vickers Chapman and husband Mack Chapman; two sisters, Billie Baughman and Lucille Wood; and a brother, Andy Wood.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Vickers Presnell and husband John of Kings Mountain; three grandsons, Michael Dwayne Presnell and wife Ann of Kings Mountain, James Daniel Presnell and wife Ruth of Charlotte, and Mack Chapman, Jr. and wife Linda of Spruce Pine; a granddaughter, Margie Pritchard and husband Ronnie of Valdese; three great grandchildren, Michael John Presnell and wife Kendra of Cherryville, Melissa Presnell of Ft. Jackson, SC, and Jonathan Chapman of Concord; three sisters, Artie Helton of Morganton, Joyce Rector and husband Stan of Lake James, and Dorothy Ray White of Morganton; a brother, Manuel Wood and wife Jeanette of Morganton; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Faith Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 70 W. in Glen Alpine with Rev. Terry Robinson, Rev. T.J. Robinson, and Rev. Mike Presnell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service, at the Church. Interment will follow at the Church Cemetery.
