Lura Ogburn Hight, 95, of Raleigh, NC, formerly of Franklinton, NC, passed away on December 28, 2017 at Brighton Gardens. She had previously been a resident at Magnolia Glen in Raleigh, NC. Lura was born on July 7, 1922 in Johnston County to the late Alonzo Carl Ogburn and Hattie Mae Williams. She graduated from Angier High School in l939. She attended East Carolina Teachers College and Hardbarger Business College. After graduating from Hardbarger, she went to work for Sterling Cotton Mills, later Fruit of the Loom, in Franklinton, NC where she worked until her retirement in 1984. It was in Franklinton where she met and married the love of her life, Charlie Guy Hight, Jr. Lura was an active member of Franklinton United Methodist Church and served as the financial secretary for almost 50 years. She was an avid bridge player which she was able to continue doing until a few years ago.

Lura is survived by her daughter, Harriet Hight Mills of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Roger G. Mills, Jr of Wilson, NC and Laura Mills McGlaughon and husband Andrew of Mount Pleasant, SC; great grandchildren Michael Mills, Charlie and Benjamin McGaughon; twelve nieces and a nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Charlie G. Hight, Jr; infant son Charlie G. Hight III; her son-in-law Roger G. Mills; and siblings, Gladys O. Woodley, Dr. Leon N. Ogburn, Leonard I. Ogburn, Edna O. Parry, and Blanche O. Dupree; and two nephews, Frank O. Woodley and John L. Ogburn.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Fairview Cemetery, located at the intersection of S. Chavis Street and E. Green Street (E. Hwy 56) Franklinton, NC. Rev. Charlie Baber will officiate. The family will receive family and friends at 1:00 PM in the Conference Room at Highland United Methodist Church, 1901 Ridge Road, Raleigh NC.
