Lydia Margaret Laird, 81, passed away Wednesday Nov. 29th at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Davie County Nov. 22, 1936 to the late A. Frank and Carrie Riddle Laird. She was also preceded in death by her first son Monty Kevin Laird, infant twin brother and sister and a granddaughter, Kasandra Coleman. She is survived by two daughters Sarita Stark (Joseph) and Melissa Coleman; two sons Kyle Laird and Malcolm Laird (Shelby); and four granddaughters: Sally Coleman, Tina Coleman, Riley Stark and Patricia Laird and two grandsons: Ryan Stark and Alexander Coleman. She is also survived by three sisters.

Lydia graduated from Mocksville High School class of 1954. She studied cosmetology after high school and for many years she was a hair dresser, an Avon lady and a homemaker. She was a member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Advance, NC. She was active in both Boy and Girl Scouting with all of her children attaining the highest awards in scouting (Gold for the two girls and Eagle for the three boys). One of her grandsons (Ryan) has also attained Eagle. Lydia was active on the committee to incorporate Clemmons in the 1980s, and she was a polling station worker at the Southwest Elementary polling station for many years.

She loved travel and visited 43 states including Alaska and six provinces and one territory of Canada. She visited Mexico with her daughters as a leader on a Girl Scout trip and again with her oldest daughter later in life. Her last big international vacation was with her oldest son to Scotland with a brief visit to an English border town.

Lydia was a dedicated mother and always encouraged her children to excel in education, vocation and their walk with Christ.

The visitation will be Friday, December 1, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home Clemmons Chapel, 2849 Middlebrook Dr. The funeral service will be Saturday at 3 pm at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Advance, 321 Redland Rd. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
