Joann Fornwalt, age 81 of 9th Street Watkins Glen, formerly of County Route 28, Watkins Glen passed away Saturday May 16th, 2015 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, New York.

Joann was born on April 27th, 1934 in Altoona, PA, the daughter of the late, Wilbert and Josephine (Gibson) Sheterom. In addition to her parents, Joann was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Fred Eugene Fornwalt Sr., on April 24th, 2011; her brother, Richard Sheterom; and her step father, Edward Lee.

Joann is survived by her children, Juanita (Robert M.) Kelley, Fred Fornwalt Jr., and Randy Fornwalt; grandchildren, Lauren (Rob) Phenes, Nathan A. Kelley and fiancé (Alicia Siurano), Amanda Fornwalt, Ashley (Logan) Shamoon, Brandon (Ashley), and Brett Fornwalt; great granddaughters, Chloe Phenes and Aubrie Shamoon. Sisters, Naomi Ruth (Sheterom) Beach (Jim), Bonnie (Lee) Barry (Douglas). Brother, Gregory Scott Lee, Sister in laws, Mary Jane (Sheterom) Allison, Virginia (Fornwalt) Clapper (George). Joann also had numerous nieces and nephews.

Joann had a profound love for her husband Fred. When Fred retired both of them ventured into antiquing. Joann and Fred bought, sold, and repaired their new found treasures. They met new friends who shared their same passion of antiques and whatnots. Along the way of their travels, they would stop at a new found diner and have a simple meal but were always so content to get back to their home and to their family.

Joann loved her children and grandchildren very much. Her great-grandchildren made her eyes sparkle. She enjoyed the simple things in life such as fresh homemade rolls with butter and talking in great length with her sister Naomi with family news. Joann talked to her grandchildren with exhilaration when they called and she made sure everyone in the immediate family was up to date with her conversations. Her granddaughter Lauren talked heart-to-heart with her on a daily basis and Lauren helped her Gram whenever she could no matter how simple or arduous the task was.

Joann intensely loved her daughter, sons, grandchildren, grandson-in-law, great grandchildren, and her son-in-law. Joann will be passionately missed by all who dearly loved her.

Services for Joann will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are through Haughey-Wood Funeral Home, 119 Fifth St., Watkins Glen, NY. Friends and family may sign the guestbook at www.haughey-woodfuneralhome.com
