Mabel Bernell Myers of Huntley, Formerly of West Salem and Lawrenceville, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2011 at the age of 93 years at Rosewood Care Center in Elgin, IL.
She was born on March 2, 1918 in West Salem, IL, the only child of Albert Louis Stremme and Dora Elizabeth Yonaka Stremme. On March 27, 1937 she and Vernie Duane Myers were united in marriage at the First Christian Church in West Salem by Bro. Hobart Lash. They are the parents of a daughter and two sons.
Mabel was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in West Ssalem. She and Duane operated the Marathon Station and a Family Shoe Store for several years. She was a retiree of Champion Laboratories in West Salem. In later years, she enjoyed making quilts and doing crafts.
Surviving are her devoted husband, Duane; their children, Melba (Gerald) Knust of Huntley, IL, Paul (Ila) Myers of Georgetown, DE, and Marion (Susan) Myers of Broken Arrow, OK; seven grandchildren, Lori Knust and Brian (Josephine) Knust of Elgin, IL, Jan (Darin) Wipperman of Mt. Airy, MD, Stephanie (Charles) Gray of Bowie, MD, Tobie (Lee) Orrick and Jason (Melissa) Myers of Sebree, KY and Jaclynn Myers of Broken Arrow, OK; also eleven great grandchildren, Kiley Knust, John Paul Gray, Bryan and Justin Graham, Bethany and Noah Myers, Samantha and John Heugh, Megan, Matthew and Brittany Orrick.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a stillbornson and a great grandson, Declan Gray.
Visitation will be Friday, August 5 from 6 to 8pm at the Ingram Funeral Home in West Salem. Memorial services will be at 10am on Saturday, August 6 with Bro. Gary Hall officiating. Interment will be at the Moravian cemetery in West Salem.
Memorials may be made in her name to the First Christian Church in West Salem.
