Mabel Edith (Garland) Hyde was born in Portland March 25, 1931 to Ewart and Lilla Jenkins Garland.



At her birth in Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland, she was named for two of their ministers, Mabel Gibson and Edith Hanson.



Mabel passed away October 12, 2017 at OHSU hospital from heart complications.



Mabel married Roy Hyde on March 2, 1956, a marriage that has lasted for over 61 years! Two children were born to their marriage: John Hyde of Beaverton and Susan (Gary) Welton of Florence, OR. She has two grandsons, Gary and Greg Welton of Florence, and one Great Grandson, Jacob Ryan Welton.



Mabel's first job was as a secretary at Sherwood High School. Later she worked as a Loan Officer at Equitable Savings & Loan. She worked at the Birds Eye cannery and many years at Tektronix where she retired. Yet later, she worked in the cafeteria for Beaverton School District.



Mabel chose to live for God when she was 10 years old. That choice at a tender age shaped her life from that time. Her great desire was to live a life pleasing to the Lord. She loved having their home used by the ministers and fellow Christians.



Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Ewart and Lilla, and by two brothers and a sister, May who died very early in life, by brothers Ray, Donald, and James, and sisters Ellen Garland Waldo and Wilma Garland Savard. She is survived by her husband Roy, son John, daughter Susan, Grandsons, and Great Grandson, and by one sister, Sarah Lofting, many loving nieces and nephews and numerous friends
