Rev. Major Cox, 87, of Decatur, Ohio passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at his residence. The Elliott County, Kentucky native was born October 1, 1927 a son to the late Curtis and Mertie Lewis Cox. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Betty J. Akers Cox, whom he married September 22, 1950.

Mr. Cox was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was an employee for the Ironton Coke Plant for over 27 years, retiring in 1982. Mr. Cox was Pastor of Decatur Apostolic Church from 1983-2004 and a member of the United Pentecostal Church International.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by:
four brothers: Estil Cox, Willis Cox, Sam Cox and James Cox
two sisters: Goldie McFann and Mary Fulk

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:
a son: Danny R. Cox of Atlanta, GA
five daughters: Sue (Rudy) McDonald of Ironton, OH, Jeanette Trent of Pedro, OH, Naomi Vulgamore of Boise, ID, Michele (Gene) Brown of Ironton, OH and Wynie (Bob) Dalton of Ironton, OH
18 grandchildren 9 great-grandchildren 7 great-great grandchildren

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday November 22, 2014 at the Great Faith Apostolic Church 1305 South Sixth Street, Ironton, Ohio with Rev. J.J. Sherrill officiating. Burial will follow in Kirby Flats Cemetery in Ashland, KY with military graveside rites by the V.F.W. Post 8850 and visitation will be Friday from 4-9 PM at the church.
