Margaret Dell Ewing, 92 of Prineville, passed away August 18, 2011 2011 following complications from a broken hip.
A graveside service will be held Thursday August, 25, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Juniper Haven Cemetery.
Margaret was born January 15, 1919 in Vandervoort, Arkansas to George Wignall and Margaret Ann (Maloney) Affolter. She was one of four children one brother two sisters. She attended Vandervoot schools. In high school she played half-court basketball and was all-star guard. She graduated from Vandervoot High School.
She married King M. Ewing in Mt. Vernon, Texas and had four children: Bill, Virginia, Peggy, and Mary Frances. King and Margaret lived in Arkansas and Texas for several years. In 1958 they moved from Magnolia, Texas to Prineville. In the 60's, dad went to work for the Army and Navy Corp of engineers and mom moved with him from state to state as his job required. In the mid to late 70's and early 80's they resided in Saudia Arabia. In 1981 dad retired from the Corp. and they moved back to Prineville, where she resided for the remainder of her life. Mom had a varied employment record. She was a short-order cook, waitress, worked at Burnett Box Factory, and many years at Coin Mill Work now (Woodgrain Products) as a tally-person and cut-off saw operator. During their travels with the Corp. Mom was a home-maker. Her last employment was with the US Postal Service on the Army Base in Riyadh, Saudia Arabia. Mom hobbies were fishing, reading, sewing and watching sports, playing all kinds of cards, especially Skip-Bo and square dancing. Mom and dad were members of the Sagebrush Shufflers for many years. They traveled all over Oregon for square-dance jamborees. Mom belonged to the Orofino, Idaho Eastern Star Chapter.
Margaret is survived by her son Bill and his wife Diana Ewing, and daughter Peggy Fall both of Prineville. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Brett L. (Laurie) Rogers from Eugene, Tracy (Rich) Schmidt of Hermiston, Yancey (Cathy) Fall of Prineville Travis (Maggie) Hale of Prineville, Brian Hale of Portland, Jason Fall of Prineville and Michelle Hale of Redmond, sixteen great grandchildren, and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and their husbands, Mary Magdalene (JD) Smedley, and Selma (Henry) Robirds, her brother, John Affholter, her beloved husband of 67 years King, two daughters Mary Frances Hale and Virginia Elizabeth Rogers, two son in-laws Steven Howard Fall and Lester Hale and one nephew.
