Margaret M. Duke breathed her last on August 2. August 18th, 2015, she celebrated her 100th birthday. She outlived most of her friends and acquaintances over these years, including her husband of 58 years, Ellery, whose life ended 17 years ago. Her life has been devoted to family, her church, and the community of Cisne. She has touched many lives through her life, as a life-long Eastern Star (including Worthy Matron) member, bookkeeper, beautician, wife, mother, 4-H leader, Cub Scout den mother, Modern Woodman chapter leader, Women's Society of Christian Service and United Methodist Women's leader, church treasurer, retail proprietor, and provider of quiet, thoughtful good will to all. She always had a sense of mission about her work through the church. She created hundreds of handmade items over the years to raise funds for the United Methodist Church's Red Bird Mission in Kentucky.

A lifelong resident of Clay and Wayne Counties, she was born in a farmhouse west of Xenia in 1915 to Goldie and LeCroyx Howard. A younger brother, Charles, preceded her in death 25 years ago. At age 22, she moved from Xenia to Cisne, where she opened a beauty shop. She married Ellery Duke at age 26. She ended the beautician career at age 30 when she started her family. She was most proud of her sons, Ellery and Ray.

Margaret is survived by Ray and his wife, Ann (Carter) Duke; and Ellery H., and his wife, Marsha (Barron) Duke. Grandchildren are: Holly Emery and husband Eric; Amy Ellen Duke-Benfield and Jason; and Benjamin Duke, and wife Joanna. Great-grandchildren include: Jack, Sam and Kirsty Emery, Satchel and Jackie Duke, and Gabriel Duke-Benfield.

Visitation will be at Hosselton Funeral Home in Cisne on Sunday, August 7, 5-7 pm., with the funeral at the Cisne United Methodist Church on Monday, August 8, 10:30 am. Burial will be in Cisne Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Cisne United Methodist Church, or the Cisne Order of the Eastern Star and will be accepted at Hosselton Funeral Home.
