Our beloved mother, sister, and friend, Margret Oliphant Knaphus died September 16th, 2017. She was born Sept 24, 1924 in Payson Utah to Clare Howe and Martha Gertrude Oliphant.
She spent her early childhood in Salt Lake City. Her home was lost during the depression and the family went to San Juan, Utah to homestead. Then they moved to Moab. After about a year they moved to San Diego, California. She loved Caliafornia, but her dad had a rambling bug, so off to Missouri they went. After a few years they moved to Silverdale, Washington where she graduated from High School, receiving a music medal, a debate medal, and a Torch Pin for National Honor Society. She went to business school for six months and then a semester of college at BYU.
She met her husband Andrew C Knaphus while he was serving in the Army. They were married December 21, 1944. While he was overseas Margret went to Palm Springs California and worked as a civilian employee of the Army Department at Torney General Hospital. After he was discharged from the Army, Andrew and Margret served an LDS mission in what was then the Central States Mission. Then they moved to Washington where Andrew attended College. After graduating they moved to Phoenix. Margret went back to college and earned a teaching degree from Grand Canyon College, and on to get a Masters degree and taught remedial reading working for the Washington school district.
After she retired, she went on another LDS mission with her husband, Andrew in the Guatemala Temple. When she returned, she taught an adult "English as a Second Language" class.
She enjoyed cake decorating, making cakes for friends and family, including wedding cakes. She enjoyed sewing and music, leading many choirs throughout the years, and playing the organ for church services.
