Marie Ann Nixon passed away peacefully on January 10, 2018 at Danbury Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Originally from Stamford, Marie and her husband Art relocated to Brookfield in 1960, where they raised their family.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, the greatest joy in Marie's life was spending time with her family. She was a skilled seamstress and folk art painter who found great pleasure in sharing these hobbies with her children and grandchildren. Marie was adventurous and loved to travel - seeing new places and meeting new people. She was an active member of the Brookfield Senior Center, where she looked forward to playing cards with friends. Marie enjoyed her years working in retail sales at Bloomingdale's, Read's, Jordan Marsh and Macy's. She was an active member of the St. Joseph's Rosary Club and the Bowl-a-Rama bowling league.

In addition to her parents and husband of 54 years, her sister Phyllis Kara and brother Frank Toto predeceased her. She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Marlene Filippi and husband, Robert; Arthur Nixon, Jr. and wife, Amy; Gail Schaefer and husband, William; a sister Gloria Petillo; a brother in law, Richard Nixon and his wife, Patricia; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and loving companion, John Gereg of Brookfield.

Never one to complain, Marie accepted life's challenges with optimism and grace. Her memory will remain forever in the hearts of her loved ones.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 12:30 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church in Brookfield. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492 or to St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 138 Candlewood Lake Rd., Brookfield, CT 06804.
