Marie Emma Louise (Vaillancourt) Wierbicki, 91, longtime resident of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2017, in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born on November 29, 1925 in Hartford, a daughter of the late Joseph Anthony and Fernande (Gaudet) Vaillancourt. She was the beloved wife of the late Simon F. Wierbicki.
Marie earned her Bachelor's degree in economics from St. Joseph's College class of '47, and was a dedicated employee at Aetna as a claims analysist and at for the State of CT Labor Department as an economist.
As an educated woman, she was a proponent of higher education. She was able to send her younger sister to college, and was involved with the PTA. Marie was a pioneer of her time as an independent, confident, intelligent, established woman.
Marie was a devout Catholic who loved to share her soprano voice with her choir at church or just to sing at any time. She loved baseball and was a dedicated Red Sox fan. She will be remembered for her fabulous cooking, her traditional core values, and her classic beauty which emanated from her with ease. Spending time with her family brought her the greatest joy of her life.
She is a loving mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, friend, who will be missed by all who knew her.
Marie will be dearly missed by her family; her beloved and cherished son and daughter-in-law with whom she lived with Stephen F. and Dawn M. Wierbicki of East Hartford, sister-in-law Ann E. Wierbicki of Berlin, brother-in-law John F. Reagan of Farmington, her daughter-in-law's parents John A. Grocki Sr. and Linda Grocki of Norwich, several nieces and nephews she loved., and her caregiver Ivy Amegadoe, of East Hartford.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Marie is predeceased by her brother Joseph Anthony Vaillancourt and sister Rita Vaillancourt Reagan.
The family wishes to thank the team from Masonicare for their dignified care given at the end of Marie's glorious life.

Calling hours will be held on Friday March 24, 2017 4-8pm at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford CT 06108. Funeral Services will begin at 9am at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Isaac Jogues Church, 1 Community St., East Hartford.
