Mariellen Farren Snyder, age 77, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2018. Mariellen was born on July 5, 1940 in Massachusetts.
She married the love of her life, George T. Snyder Jr. on October 5, 1963. Together they raised two children and lived in Connecticut, Ohio, Massachusetts, Arizona, and Virginia. Through their marriage, Mariellen was able to travel on cruises and see many sites in the United States and Canada. She loved going to the Kennedy Center to see plays and musicals through their subscription series. Mariellen and George met at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire and then continued to vacation there with their children and her sister-in-law's family for many years. Losing George over 23 years ago was the most devastating time in her life. The peace of knowing that she is with him now cannot even be expressed in words.
Mariellen loved shopping and visiting the QVC Shopping Studio. She has an extensive collection of Hummel's, as well as Boyd's Bears. Mariellen enjoyed watching the squirrels cause havoc on George's bird feeders as they both watched out the kitchen windows as the squirrels and birds defended their territory. She also enjoyed attending the many seasosdnal craft shows. At times, George was even able to talk her into attending a Fairfax City event, while he was Mayor of Fairfax City. The huge City of Fairfax parade, luncheon, and fireworks on July 4th were just a preview to her birthday celebrations.
Mariellen was also able to support and take care of her two grand-daughters Brooke and Amanda. Her happiest moments were with her grand-daughters in knowing that they were having fun and experiencing so many different things in their lives. Recently, she was most proud to be sitting at Christmas Eve service watching her grand-daughter Brooke sing in the church choir. Whenever possible, Mariellen was at their school events, concerts, art shows, etc. for both girls.
Mariellen is survived by her brother George Robert Farren, children Kimberly Shoemaker and Todd Snyder, two grand-daughters, son-in-law Greg Shoemaker, sister-in-law, Margaret Gay, two nieces, and five nephews. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held January 22 at 11:00, followed by a 12:00 service and then directly to the graveside at the Fairfax City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations on Mariellen's behalf to Grace United Methodist Church, 9750 Wellington Road, Manassas, VA 20110 in her grand-daughter Brooke Snyder's name.
