Marilyn Gale Verrijden, 78, of Portland, passed away on October 19, 2017. She was born in Spokane, Washington to Wayne Daggett and Vesta Evans, and was raised with one sibling, Michael. Marilyn graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane. She continued her education at Portland State University, earning a Masters’ Degree in English and certifications in education. Professionally, Marilyn spent her time in education, serving at the middle school, high school and college level as a teacher. Marilyn was a voracious reader, writer, politically active and when she was able she enjoyed walking daily. She was generous as well, often giving her time to the community she lived in. She was a member of the Women’s League of Peace and Freedom and she volunteered at the William Temple House Pantry with her church. During her retirement she looked forward to her class reunions in Spokane, and going on adventures with her niece, Mary. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Vesta; and brother, Michael. She is survived by her son, Scott (Cailynn) Remly; grandchildren, Shawn and Cory; great grandchildren, Cory Jr., and Mickey; niece, Mary Daggett; lifelong friend, Lynn Aten.
