Marion Wood Adkins died peacefully at her home on August 14, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Marion was born on May 28, 1923, and grew up in Tampa, Florida. She was a graduate of Florida State University.

Marion met her husband, CJ, while he was stationed in Tampa during World War II. They were set up as blind dates because they were the shortest of their friends and seemed to be a perfect match. They were married in 1946 and settled in Bellaire, Texas where they raised their two children. Marion and CJ were members of Bellaire United Methodist Church for over 60 years. A consummate mother and homemaker, Marion was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Everyone was welcome in her home, and she loved celebrating all occasions with her family, friends and neighbors. Marion was also a talented seamstress and loved knitting, needlepoint, and quilting with her Chatty Crafters friends. She was a loyal Astros fan and an avid bridge player who dearly loved her many bridge partners. She also volunteered at all her children's schools, teams and youth activities and was a life-time volunteer at Methodist Hospital and its thrift shop.

She was a devoted wife to CJ for over 68 years and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Known as Nannie to her granddaughters, she was very close to them throughout their lives and attended many of their school events and all their high school graduations. They always loved visiting Nannie and enjoyed her frequent phone calls.

Marion was predeceased by her husband, Claude James Adkins. Among, those left to cherish her memory are her son, Barry Wood Adkins and wife Kim, and her daughter, Jill Adkins Brlansky and husband John Randall. She is also survived by her precious and loved granddaughters, Lindsay Adkins Minor and husband Bradley, Courtney Adkins Bassett and husband Carson, Emily Brlansky Tamlyn and husband Connor, and Amy Evelyn Brlansky; and great-grandchildren, Caroline Claire Minor and Charles David Minor.

The family would like to thank caregivers Brenda, Casi, Cecelia, Jessica, Debby, Esmeralda and Monica for their loving care and devotion to Marion. The family is grateful for the excellent and compassionate medical care provided to Marion by Dr. Anna Kagan and Dr. Ron Galfione. Along with the usual remembrances, please consider a donation to Bellaire United Methodist School for Little Children or the charity of your choice in honor of Marion.

A celebration of life will be held Monday, August 21, 2017 at 1:30 pm at Bellaire United Methodist Church, 4417 Bellaire Boulevard.
