Martha Ann Council, a mother, teacher, and quilter died on May 11th, after a full and rich life. She was 81.

Born in Nacogdoches, Texas on March 23, 1936, Martha was the youngest of three children of Charles and Ruth Gee.

Martha attended Southern Methodist University on scholarship and eventually earned a Master's Degree in Music, before becoming a teacher for the Dallas Independent School District. The talkative, friendly teacher later met a young engineer named Malcolm Council and married him in 1962.

Martha and Malcolm built a home in Richardson, Texas, in 1965 where they raise a family, including son John, who was born in 1967 and Cara, who was born in 1969. The joy of Martha's life was raising her family and the marriage she had with Malcolm.

In the last twenty years of her life, she became passionate and skilled in the American art of quilting, developed a friendship with fellow quilters across Texas, and won numerous awards for her work.

She is survived by her husband, son, daughter, grandson Kevin Etheridge and was loved by everyone who knew her.

Arrangements under the direction of Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, Dallas, TX.
